The Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee headquartered in Brazoria County, TX (MLKCC) has established a community grants program.

Purpose – this program is established to aid non-profit community-based organizations in achieving their goals of enriching and uplifting the citizenry of Brazoria County. This purpose is achieved through financial grants.

Eligibility – Non-profit organizations having a stated purpose that improves the conditions or lives of people in Brazoria County are eligible to receive this grant. Examples include mentoring and/or tutoring programs, reading, engagement through athletics, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, & Mathematics (STEAM), organizations that provide home repairs to support senior citizens and lower socio-economic citizens, and programs or projects that reach and support the underprivileged and underserved.

    1. While 501(c)(3) is advantageous, it is not mandatory.
    2. Consideration will be given without regard to race, creed, color, or nationality.
    3. Ineligible participants include: political organizations/candidates, individual stand-alone sports teams, for-profit businesses, home owners associations, organizations with restricted memberships, labor unions, or individual persons.

Use of Funds – Funds are restricted to the purpose stated in the application for the grant. If the event, program or project does not occur after receiving the grant, the grantee must notify MLKCC representative(s) to discuss other options for the use of the funds, which could include returning the funds back to MLKCC.

Program / Project Evaluation – Periodic updates on the progress of the program / project, including documentation in narratives, photos, videos, etc. shall be required when appropriate. Also, upon completion, a final report is requested to summarize the success, effectiveness, or impact of the program / project.

Range of Grant Funding – Grants may range from $500 – $5,000.

Grant Periods / Schedule – See below for “Schedule A. MLKCC 2023 – 2024 Grants Schedule”.  An organization may apply ONLY once per year.
