The following organizations have been award grants during our 2022-2023 Phase I grant funding window.  Congratulations to these worthy recipients!

Matagorda-Brazoria Cancer Assistance Program, Inc.
(MBCAP) is an organization targeted at assisting cancer patients with expenses associated with their cancer treatments such as transportation, medicine, medical expenses or other medical needs related to treatment. This grant is focused on providing more community visibility and awareness of the help that is available for cancer patients in Matagorda and Brazoria County areas. This organization’s priority is to help as many people as possible who have been stricken with cancer.

New Jerusalem Baptist Church Seasoned Saints Ministry
This group provides a hot lunch for Seniors (65yrs +) twice a month in the Freeport area. Residents from Brazoria, Angleton, Sweeny, West Columbia, and Pearland regularly attend the luncheons, numbering 45-50 persons each session. Health awareness issues are addressed through educational programs at each meeting. Other services include bingo games, exercise, fellowship, and entertainment.

Sam’s Feathers Youth Foundation
Sam’s Feathers is a mentoring non-profit organization that empowers youth with techniques to allow them to pursue their deepest aspirations. This organization is open to all youth but is especially focused on those who are disadvantaged or simply need help or guidance navigating school subjects and other issues. Sam’s Feathers help to keep kids on track, motivated and equipped to succeed. Sam’ s Feathers seek to enhance a student’s knowledge in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics), mental health, financial literacy, and understanding of the legislative process. Sam’s Motto is: Each one – Teach one. Priorities are equipping, motivating, teaching, fostering the success and accomplishments of youth mentees. Our youth are our future but face so many personal, environmental, and societal issues that stifle them from thriving. This organization wants to make a positive difference in the lives of our youth in Brazoria County.

WOL Education and Development Center (Words of Life)
WOL (Words of Life) Education and Development Center focuses on developing Dreams to Reality. This is a two-part summer program for school age children to review and teach various concepts in core subjects. The second part is a program focusing on teaching pre-teens and teenage students life skills to achieve self-sufficiency. The purpose of the project is to help the children remember as well as retain concepts they learned during the school year and introduce them to future class work of their next grade level year. Volunteers teach basic skills, how to change a tire, cooking, food safety, dangers of the internet, hygiene subjects, and how to use basic household tools. This project’s purpose is to better equip the students for adulthood and prevent students from engaging in risk taking behavior. The students also learn the importance of giving back to their community.

George W. Carver American Legion Post 835
This project is active participation in the American Legion Educational Outreach Oratorical Program that focuses on the constitutional speech competition that will help high school students develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation for the U.S. Constitution. The second part of the project is The American Legion Educational Boys State Program that selects High School Juniors who will receive an education on the structure and function of the federal government in Austin, Texas. At Boys state, participants learn the rights and privileges and responsibilities of franchised citizens. This program partners with local high schools in the Brazoria County area with communications, speech and government departments. This program pays travel and lodging expenses for the Oratorial Program and Boys state program.

Wildcat Social Club
The Wildcat Social Club pays quarterly visits to nursing homes and supplying residents with gift baskets, music, bingo, etc. The gift baskets consists of a quality throws and personal hygiene items. Seasonal items are also in consideration. The organization also provides maintenance of senior citizens homes such as mowing, small home repairs, installation of smoke detectors, etc. The Wildcat Social Club provides scholarships for high school seniors and coach them on how to apply for other available scholarships.

GRACE & MERCY FOOD PANTRY
Grace & Mercy Food Pantry mission is to fight hunger and poverty with food, education, programs, and resources to families in a dignified, personal, and timely manner. Grace & Mercy serves about 2500 families monthly. Funding will be used to purchase food and supplies.

Sweeny Lions Club
The Sweeny Lions Club mission is to ensure that all children have the opportunity to receive vision screening and to facilitate necessary follow-up care, concentrating on the ages 6 months to 6 years. The aim is to detect children needing eyeglasses to see clearly because every child deserves to learn and see the world clearly and succeed in school and society. This grant will be used to purchase a mobile vision screener in order to provide free screening to children ages six months to six years old.

Rocking A-T Riding Club
Rocking A_T Riding Club sponsors annual school supply drives, Easter Egg Hunt for community youth, Thanksgiving Dinners for elderly and low-income families, and scholarships to graduating high school seniors.
