The Martin Luther, King Jr. Celebration Committee is proud to present it over $28,000 to community organizations in the form of grants. Each organization received a grant of $3,500 for continued service to the community.

George Washington Carver HS Alumni Association
The goal of this program is to continue to identify recent high school graduates and to assist them to find jobs in the local job markets. Jobs include certification in health care related fields, skilled laborers, license jobs and vocational jobs.  This program will continue to assist students in job placement seeking completion of non- traditional trade programs. Scholarships will be provided to students to attend school and complete certification credentials needed to successfully achieve a job such as a welder, phlebotomist, pharmacy tech, LVN, CNA, HVAC Tech, cosmetologist, barber, esthetician, CDL driver, and Vet. Tech.

Zion Temple Community Development Corporation – Helping Hands Program
This program is aimed to provide support and assistance to Brazoria County residents who are having challenging times. The program established in 2020 to provide groceries, school supplies, and clothing for families. This program will host two job fairs and a health fair to help residents find jobs and will establish a data base for companies needing workers in Brazoria County.

COGIC Old Fashion New Inspiration Food Pantry
This food pantry is aimed to alleviate food insecurity and provide essential nutrition to rural families (south of the Brazos River) that lack fresh food options.  This pantry is dedicated to addressing the pressing issue of hunger by providing emergency food assistance. Plans are to increase support of families on a monthly basis. This pantry plans to partner with area churches and libraries to host educational initiatives and food distribution.

Omega Psi Phi-Rho Xi Chapter – Christmas Give Away Project
This project aims to aide limited resource families in Brazoria County by creating a festive holiday event to celebrate Christmas by providing Christmas gifts to children ages 2-18. Children will be recruited from local schools and churches in Brazoria County. The focus is for children who may not be able to celebrate Christmas due to financial constraints.  This project will host an inaugural event with a full course breakfast for the families in Brazoria County. Lots of love, joy, and happiness for the holiday season.

Brazoria County Debutante Committees Incorporated
The Brazoria County Debutante Committee has labored over the past 30 years to encourage and showcase senior girls in Brazoria County along with young men and junior girls they select to be a part of their debut.  It has been the goal of the BCDC to motivate and to encourage these young adults to strive for excellence, to be responsible citizens, and to endeavor to make outstanding contributions in the community.

Many of the young adults who have come through the Debutante program have flourished to become highly productive career goal-oriented individuals as business owners, lawyers, doctors, teachers, and skilled professionals.

Some of them have been willing to give service and monetary contributions as well as provide leadership, back to the community.  This grant will be used to restart the Brazoria County Debutante program to continue to move forward with an investment to maintain that productive pipeline into this community.

MIMS COMMUNTY CENTER
The purpose of this grant is to install outdoor ceiling fans for much needed ventilation in the MIMS Community Center Pavilion. The MIMS Community Center hosts religious, educational, and social gatherings (regardless of race, creed, religion, or sex). Events include banquets, funeral repast, family/school reunions, fundraisers, June 19th Celebrations, voting poll, and numerous functions providing community growth and development.

A.B. Marshall and T.J. Wright Education Association
This grant will be used to conduct a grass-root survey of Southern Brazoria County high school graduates and their fate in the transition into meaningful careers. Significant numbers of students of color struggle in this phase of their careers. The findings will support a full-blown Career Readiness Bridges for At-risk Students proposal application. These findings will be included in applications for local, state, and federal funding opportunities to develop services and support for this most vulnerable segment of our society.

FMBC Community Development Corporation
‘Seniors On The Move’ encourages citizens in the Angleton area, ages 60 and above, to become more active outside the home. The goal is to get individuals out of their homes for a few hours to help fight loneliness and depression. They get to participate in site seeing, field trips, tours and cultural events. These funds will be used to help offset the costs of these trips allowing greater participation
