The ActionS, Inc. of Brazoria County serves the needs of our senior citizens in Brazoria County. One of their annual projects is their Fans and Heaters donation. Over the past five years, MLKCC has donated fans to help with relief from rising temperatures during the summer. This year, MLKCC donated 40 fans to the annual project. Through its community outreach initiatives, The Martin Luther King Jr Celebration Committee prepare “Homeless Backpacks” to distribute to homeless individuals in the Brazosport Area and surrounding communities. The 50 backpacks prepared contained a blanket, socks, personal hygiene items, water bottle, water, a snack package and a gift card to purchase a meal from a local fast food establishment.Read More →

MLK Poster Essay Contest Winners Announced The MLK Awards program was recently held on Feb. 17 for the winners of the annual MLK Poster and Essay Contest on the campus of Brazosport College. WEST COLUMBIA – One of our MLKCC Community Grant recipients, Communities in Schools (CIS), recently sponsored a mentoring event at West Columbia Elementary.  The Columbia High School “Stand By Peace” CIS mentors worked with their younger peers to create posters and develop activities focusing on drug-free living.
