Brazosport College sponsored the 2024 MLKCC Poster & Essay Awards Presentation on February 22, 2024, as part of their Black History Month Celebration.  Students ages 8-18 participated in the poster contest, and students grade 6-12 participated in the essay contest.  Certificates were awarded for first, second, and third place to 17 Brazoria County students. The MLKCC is here to announce its charitable efforts and support for the Salvation Army in opening a new lodging facility aimed at assisting not only men, but now helping women and families. In the spirit of recognizing senior citizens for World Senior Citizens Day, The Martin Luther King Jr Celebration Committee (MLKCC) sponsored its second Senior Citizen Recognition Day on August 19th at the GMZ Event Center in Brazoria. The event included: Health screening for blood pressure; AC1 testing provided by Texas A & M Health Diabetes Education Program – Healthy South Texas; Informational booths on the OLLIE’s program offered by UTMB Health and the ALL of US National Research Health Program; A presentation and information on hurricane Preparedness by Brazoria County Emergency Management, and lunch. “Books, minds, and umbrellas only work if they are opened!”  This quote spoke volumes at the Greater Mount Zion Church in Brazoria 12th Annual Dream Camp that was held on July 10-14, 2023. The Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee was right there to support the camp with a Book Fair.
