Second Chance – Full Ride (2 Year) Scholarship Criteria/Information
(Student Who Will Attend Brazosport College)
The Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee of Brazoria County, Inc., a regionally respected community foundation, will administer this scholarship fund. The purpose of the fund is to support scholarship awards for students who have been out of school for two years or more but still want to pursue a higher education post the secondary school level.
Eligibility
1. Must be a high school graduate who has a high school diploma or a GED/HSE
2. Must have been out of high school for at least 2 years or more OR
3. Must be a student who has never attended college OR
4. Must be a student who began college but never completed your degree
5. Must be African American/Black
6. Must attend Brazosport College and meet all Admission and Registration requirements
7. Must complete and submit the MLKCC 2nd Chance Scholarship Application with a recent photo attached to the application
8. Must submit two letters of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, school administrator, or pastor
9. Must submit a 300 – 500 word typed essay “My Story…How a College Degree Can Improve My Life”
10. Must submit your high school transcript or GED/HSE certification if you have not attended college before OR
11. Must submit a college transcript if you have attended college but did not receive a degree
12. Must be able to attend an interview with the MLKCC Scholarship Committee when notified
Scholarship Selection & Amount
1. The applicant MUST secure the application online.
2. The applicant MUST submit their application online to scholarships@mlkcc.org
3. The applicant MUST be available for an interview to complete the process when notified.
4. The Scholarship is worth the cost of 12-15 full time hours for each semester, NOT to exceed 4 semesters in the amount of $1,200.00
