The Martin Luther King Jr. Drum Major Award for community service is based on nominees who selflessly perform daily acts of service to make their community — and our world — a better place for all. The award was established in 1999; and the selected honorees reside in Brazoria County, Texas. Eligible nominees can be of any age and reside in any portion of the county.
This award honors the unsung heroes that perform extraordinary or everyday ordinary acts of service with dedication and commitment. Furthermore, their work exemplifies Dr. King’s values and beliefs. This annual “MLK Drum Major Award” recognizes those individuals who, in the committee’s opinion, best exemplify Dr. King’s commitment and philosophy to scholarship, social justice, community service, and civic duty.
Nominees are welcomed from any age group; however, their work must demonstrate those characteristics that embody Dr. King and his legacy. The nominations form must cite activities and/or contributions that demonstrate the significant contributions, which the individual has made towards serving their community, their church, or their school or university.
The nominations process for the 2025 Drum Major Award is now closed.
