ANGLETON- The Martin Luther King Celebration Committee recently awarded nine (9) grants to local community and non- profit organizations.
–GMZ Education and Development Center–
“Einstein the Mind” project will introduce STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) to elementary school age Dream camp Students and address STEM Gaps for intermediate level students by providing a hands on experience with STEM Kits.
–Brazosport Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority , Incorporated
A Girls Secret Service Project will allow Fifth and Sixth Grade economically disadvantaged girls to recoup their loss of instructional time, gain skills reading, writing, math and science and build the characteristics of an effective 21st century learner. The target audience is intermediate students at Clute Intermediate School.
–Communities in Schools- (CIS)-
Stand by Peace is an anti-bullying and anti-drug group at Columbia High School. STAND BY PEACE STANDS FOR STUDENTS TAKING ACTION NOT DRUGS, BY PROMOTING PEACE AND EDUCATING ALL COMMUNITIES EVERYWHERE. The purpose of this project is to educate elementary students in Columbia-Brazoria Independent School District on anti-bullying, anti-gang and conflict resolution. CIS priorities for this project includes giving students a safe place to learn and grow as well as chance to give back to peers and the community.
–Brazoria County Head Start Early Learning Schools, Inc. –
The Head Start program (BCHS) will provide a mobile traveling lab to spark a child’s interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and multiple languages. This mobile lab will visit each Head Start campus and contain various learning stations that will allow students the opportunity to experience hands on exploration of the STEMM disciplines.
–Blessing in a Bowl (New Hope Baptist Church/Clute )
Blessing in a Bowl is an outreach ministry composed of volunteers who provide hot nutritious meals to disabled, elderly, homeless, and needy families in the Brazoria County area. Meals are delivered every fourth Saturday of the month to program participants. This program also helps clients in other requested services as needed.
–Noah’s Ark Children’s Transitional Care Foundation – NACTCF-
This Foundation provides support and resources to families who have experienced the death of a child or their child has a terminal illness and has been referred to palliative care. Services are based on the need of the family. The purpose is to offer tangible resources to families dealing with grief.
-Smart Scholars Foundation –
Smart Scholars Foundation will conduct a Police Cadet summer camp program for students in Brazoria County area with a focus on Law/Police Academy. Students will attend a 4 week summer camp taught by law enforcement officers.
–Brazosport Elite Youth Football Association-
The BEYFA project is to promote youth football in Brazoria County. This season a 7 on 7 football and flex program will be presented to area youth during the spring 2021.
–Juneteenth Committee-
The purpose of this project is to plan and implement a Heritage parade for local residents. This project also will provide scholarships to several local high school students during this celebration event.
