Chromebooks Giveaway Presented by Martin Luther King Celebration Committee of Brazoria County, Inc.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee (MLKCC) donated 25 Chromebooks to students from 4 local school districts–Angleton ISD, Brazosport ISD, Sweeny ISD and Columbia-Brazoria ISD home school during a holiday celebration held at True Honor Missionary Baptist Church, Saturday, December 20th. MLKCC partnered with Hope for Tomorrow organization on identifying these students for this early Christmas gift. Jude Roberson, Founder of Hope For Tomorrow (HFT), in a conversation with Esther Williams, MLKCC member, voiced her concern that students were falling behind with school work due to unavailable resources. She stated that her goal was to provide 50 Chromebooks to local students for Christmas. After that conversation, Williams set the plan in motion to have MLKCC purchase Chromebooks for the students. Roberson stated “When I was approached by a MLK Committee member I thought it was a dream”. “Knowingly the dream was true. Thanks to the MLK Celebration Committee the students from 5th all the way through 12th grade will benefit from this technology”. When asked how the Chromebook would be distributed, Roberson said the families would have to submit an application for approval. Roberson was so appreciative of the gifts, she stated, “my prayers have been answered”. Hope for Tomorrow has given technology for many years to students to help accelerate their reading and math programs etc. Hope for Tomorrow (HFT) is committed to helping our children succeed in education is greatly appreciated.

Reda Bell of Angleton stated “Hope for Tomorrow has been a great resource and a blessing in disguise for many of years for my granddaughter and I. With a limited income and no transportation, it’s hard to get around and make it to everything that comes up but Hope for Tomorrow reaches out and helps us when they see we need help. We pray that God continue to bless Mrs. Jude and the wonders that she is doing with Hope for Tomorrow. Thank You MLKCC and Hope for Tomorrow for making it possible for my granddaughter to get a Chromebook for Christmas.”

Shay Hall of West Columbia said “Hope for Tomorrow has been a pillar of Clute’s community for many years. Hope for Tomorrow has provided families of all creeds with food, clothing, compassion and most of all God’s love. I have witnessed her helping children grow and strive to give them the supplies, guidance and the best information on how to manifest the things that God has for them is truly in their reach. Sis. Robinson is truly a blessing to our community, our church family as well as her own. We are thankful for her contributions and pray God will continue to give her grace and mercy to continue to help others in our community.

At the event, Dorothy Thomas, MLKCC president, shared a statement from the internet that said—“education is a great equalizer”. A solid foundation in K-12 prepares you for college and ultimately your job.” She stated, this gift is an investment in your future. We are here to support you and bridge the technology gap”. She encouraged the students to work hard and use all available resources to succeed. Thomas reminded the students and parents, that this gift would not be possible without the generous donation the MLKCC received from Freeport LNG. In June of this year, Freeport LNG announced the contribution of $1,000,000 over the next five years. After receiving the first donation of $200,000, we quickly began our strategic planning and educational opportunities were one of our priorities. Technology affords students with different learning styles to adapt to the new school environment. The world is constantly changing and keeping up with the latest information is only a click away when students have computers. Dr. King’s legacy continues to be eminent as we support the students by providing these educational gifts.
