The Martin Luther King Celebration Committee of Brazoria County, Inc. a regionally respected community foundation will administer this scholarship fund. The purpose of the fund is to support scholarship awards for local high school seniors, who plan to pursue higher education post the secondary school level. The Martin Luther King Celebration Committee of Brazoria County, Inc. will award scholarships to local high school seniors. Scholarships must be used by February of the following year.

  • To be eligible, a student must meet these eligibility requirements.
    • Must be a 2021 Graduating Senior Angleton, Brazosport, Brazoswood, Columbia or Sweeny High Schools
    • Applicants must be African American/Black
    • Must submit an application provided by the recipient’s high school or the attached application form.
    • Must submit an official high school transcript with the application
    • Must submit an essay 300 to 500 Essay – “How I Can Benefit from a College Education”
    • Must submit two letters of recommendation from a teacher counselor, school administrator, or pastor.
    • The recipient must identify participation in extracurricular activities for school, church, and community services.
    • Students who are recipients of a full athletic scholarship WILL NOT be considered for this scholarship.
    • MUST attend Brazosport College.
  1. The Scholarship is worth the cost of 12-15 full-time hours for each semester, not to exceed 4 semesters in the amount of $1200.00 each semester.
  2. Each semester a check will be mailed to the Brazosport College registrar upon verification of enrollment.
  3. The Martin Luther King Celebration Committee Incorporated of Brazoria County will review all applications and will select the recipient. The recipient will be notified at the high school awards ceremony with information on how to receive the scholarship.
  4. To receive an application, please contact the counselors’ office at your local high school.  Submit the completed applications and supporting documentation to your school counselor by your school’s due date or by
    March 15, 2024.
